Cities like Amsterdam and Copenhagen are showing how it’s done: cycling is the way towards a climate-friendly future. Two-wheelers are not only quiet and exhaust-free, they often get us from A to B in urban areas quicker than bulky, motorized four-wheelers. But in order to get more people on bikes, better cycling infrastructure is needed to help make the journey safer and more enjoyable. In 2014, bicycle fatalities made up 11.64 percent of road fatalities within the European Union. In this sense, the Radbahn (translated: bike way or bike highway) could be a milestone for Berlin, Germany: an 8.9 km long canopied cycle lane that runs through the heart of Berlin and gets cyclists off the road and away from cars, so to speak. How does zipping from Bahnhof Zoo to Warschauerstraße, breathing fresh air as you zip between curtains of green, stopping at one of the service stations along the route to receive free assistance if your bike chain starts squeaking or your tyres are feeling flat sound?

Sound good? We think so, too! We spoke with Simon Wöhr, one of the initiators of Radbahn, about the ideas and the opportunities to make this a reality. Check out our interview with him.
