HEVO Power, one of the finalist at this year’s SXSW Eco Startup Showcase, plans on creating a global standard for EV’s wireless charging.

Currently there are several major issues with the use of plug-in charging stations for Electronic Vehicles, including: inconvenience of having to use a charging cord, vandalism and theft of the charging units and damage to EVs due to defective connector at the charging stations. HEVO Power, a startup based on New York, has come up with a new innovative solution that will make plug-in stations a thing of the past.

HEVO’s charging station comes in three parts: a vehicle charging receiver that can be attached to the vehicle, a power station that is embedded to the pavement (with capacity of 20-volts and up to 10 kilowatts) and a smartphone app. The HEVO app allows the user to not only find the nearest HEVO station, but also to keep track of their monthly charging cost.

HEVO Powers has teamed up with the New York University, and plans on installing several charging station near New York’s Washington Square Park and the NYU Campus.
