Every year, the German environmental organisation “Deutsche Umwelthilfe” (DUH) awards the Environmental Media Prize to outstanding journalistic and literary achievements that have contributed to the preservation and protection of the natural environment. The prize aims to both motivate and support people who are working to raise awareness about the dangers facing the future of our planet and inspiring others to do their bit to protect the environment. At the same time, the award also calls on powerful decision-makers both in the media and politics to take action.
This year, the jury nominated Uta Mühleis, RESET’s co-founder, as one of seven candidates for the Audience Award – and RESET gained enough votes from the public to be named one of three finalists. “It’s a huge honour for the work that we do that so many people voted for RESET,” said RESET founder Uta Mühleis. “We are delighted that sustainability and digitalisation are becoming increasingly important in the context of environmental journalism”.

The winners of the DUH’s 24th Environmental Media Prize were: Malte Kreutzfeldt (print media), Frauke Reyer (radio), the Frontal21 team (film), Rezo (online) and Inga Kälber (audience award). The award ceremony was led by a number of different figures from media and politics, including German Green Party politician Renate Künast and Markus Beckedahl founder of digital rights portal netzpolitik.org.
