Research findings should not be confined to academic journals and traditional published channels; with the emergence of Open Data (complete sets of information on an issue or activity that are open and free to use, reuse, and redistribute), information sharing can be done through ICT tools such as infographics, photo films and animated graphics to unleash research findings in paper entries in many dynamic and innovative ways. Now there are two chances for you to show your talents!
Announcing “Living Data”
The “ Living Data competition” is hosted by the CGIAR Development Dialogues website running from August to mid-September 2014. An online audience can pick CGIAR’s research facts and figures from the Living Data Input list and a series of short blogposts to build up a knowledge base for sustainable and climate smart agriculture. What you need to do is to transform and adapt the information and data to new drawings, pictures or videos that favour public information, transparency and innovations. Thanks to free and hands-on web-based design tools like Pictochart and Canva, we can all make infographics like professional graphic designers. All competition entries will be put to public vote after the submission deadline (15 September).
Survey on Agricultural Open Data for the Caribbean
If you are familiar with the availability of agricultural open data in the Caribbean, as well as its use and any issues relating to it, check out and respond to a new survey on Agriculture Open Data for the Caribbean, an initiative undertaken by the AgriHack Talent Caribbean via the joint-effort of Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). From now on until 24 August 2014, you can spend 10 minutes filling out the online survey form with questions looking to identify open-source agridata out there in the Caribbean region.
