Should writing about food go beyond taste, trends and recipes? Should food sustainability be at the heart of solving some key paradoxes of our times, such as hunger, obesity, food waste and starvation, or the fuel versus food dilemma? If you write about these issues, this award is for you.
Journalists, bloggers, freelancers and individuals with a passion for a more equitable and sustainable food system: you have until 31st May 2017 to submit your application for this year’s Food Sustainability Media Award, and be in for a chance to get your hands on a €10,000 cash prize, and all-expenses paid media training, courtesy of The Thomas Reuters Foundation and the Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition.
Climate change, poverty, over-consumption, a growing population, are some of the challenges our global food system is currently facing. The Award recognises the role of the media in shedding light on some of the paradoxes of our times, such as obesity and hunger, food waste and starvation, food and fuel.
The Award invites submissions of both published and unpublished work through three categories: written, video, and photojournalism. Submissions will be assessed by a panel of judges from journalism, photography, food and agricultural sustainability policy and research, and winners chosen by 31st October 2017.
Are you a professional writer or an emerging talent, an activist or researcher: whatever your background, it’s your story that counts here, and your ability to engage ordinary people from all walks of life into promoting a fairer and more sustainable food system, through their every day decisions.
