Donation Projects 2025 – Our Recommendations for a Sustainable and Fair Digital World

Want to get involved in creating a sustainable digital future? Here are our recommendations for organisations to donate to.

Where do we see the most pressing need for action in the digital world? Inevitably, the spotlight falls on the biggest topic right now: the new world of Generative AI and large language models (LLMs), like ChatGPT and other GPT systems.

Even though they may make everyday life easier for some, their development and use carry a major environmental consequence. Training and using these models is associated with vast CO2 emissions and enormous water consumption in data centres. This rapid, unchecked growth has serious, potentially fatal consequences for the environment and the climate.

The clear takeaway is that the demand for these revolutionary AI tools creates an urgent, unsustainable burden that requires immediate attention.

Our donation recommendations this year are to organisations that oppose the environmentally damaging expansion of data centres.

Our number 1 donation project recommendation: Honor the Earth

“Ten new data centres would negate ALL annual CO2 savings from electric cars,” according to research by Foxglove. The NGO Foxglove is campaigning to ensure that the environmental impact of data centres is carefully assessed and appropriate measures taken. In the UK and across Europe. Donate now!

Donation project recommendation number 3: AlgorithmWatch

The NGO AlgorithmWatch strives for a world in which technologies make societies more equitable, democratic, inclusive, and sustainable. To this end, AlgorithmWatch is committed to spreading awareness about the impact of data centres and limiting their expansion. The NGO recently compiled a guide to help local residents inform themselves and counteract the potential negative effects of planned data centres in their area. After all, we are all affected – a new data centre may even be built in your neighbourhood. Donate now!

Or donate to RESET!

As a donation-funded organisation, we are of course delighted to receive support! What does your donation to RESET support? Digital sustainability is a topic that is very close to our hearts – and next year, you will continue to find solutions for digitalisation that aim to benefit people and the environment. Donate now!
