The Organisation for Marine Conservation, Awareness and Research (OMCAR) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization formed 2004 at the Southeastern Indian town called Pattukkottai of Tamil Nadu state, India.
OMCAR is aimed to monitor the local coastal environmental changes and creating environmental awareness on the local marine ecosystems such as sandy beaches of Point Calimere (where Olive Ridleys are used to breed), Muthupet Mangrove Forest and Sea grass beds of Palk Bay.
Due to lack of awareness and education among the fisher folk community, the above ecosystems and the coastal environment of Palk bay are indiscriminately exploited and physically damaged by the illegal fishing activities such as bomb fishing, trawler operation and aquaculture pollution. These hazardous local man-made activities may slowly diminish the neighboring marine environment.
Registration Number27/2004 Address: OMCAR inc. 19, Marutthuvar Street, Pattukottai, Zamil Nadu, India.
