What a great idea, A rickshaw powered by solar electric power with a catchy name - 'Soleckshaw' i.e. SOL for solar, E for Electric and CKSHAW for Rickshaw.
Soleckshaw is a tricycle rickshaw complete with a battery capable of charging itself through solar charging stations. Sound expensive? It's not.
The Soleckshaw comes in different variations: a metal frame body model is available for 45000 Rs (definitely comparatively heavier and requires more power), the plastic body model is available at the price of 75000 and 85000 Rupees. These rickshaws are capable of covering a moderate 40-70 kilometre distance per charge depending on the model variant (6 hour charge). They can be charged via the installed solar charging stations set up by the Central Electronics Limited around the City or also through the Solar panel installed over the roof (limited models, picture on the left).
The Soleckshaw could provide a solid alternative to auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaws. Auto-rickshaws which contribute to the environmental pollution and require CNG or fossil fuel to run, do not prove very pocket friendly to the commuters due to the rising cost of the fuel and on the other hand tricycles or cycle rickshaws are very time consuming and require heavy man power and are not suitable for a longer distance travel (5-10 km) in and around the city.
The soleckshaw can also be further modified to act as a goods carrier, vehicle for the physically disabled, campus transport or even a ice cream/fast-food cart.
With the Delhi metro connectivity reaching all parts of the city, Soleckshaw, with its zero carbon foot print, together with the Delhi Metro provide a full green transport option to commuters from their home to their office or other locations in around town.
