Responsible Travel Week is a wakeup call for travellers to contribute to making a healthier Earth.
Hosted by Planeta.com, Responsible Travel Week is the fifth "online" conference taking place. It is free, easy to join online from home and open to participants from all around the world regardless of what language you speak. The idea of it goes beyond eco-awareness. Responsible Travel Week wants to prompt people to love travel and love doing it responsibly. Furthermore, it wants to demonstrate how using social networking helps, without incurring costs to document and spread the main achievements and challenges that this idea generates.
The motto for this year is Redo, Re-Imagine and Remix. Participants are asked to participate and be actively involved during the week, by considering and suggesting ideas about different topics, for example, ways in which locals and visitors can benefit from tourism while simultaneously taking into account the role that social media is playing at the moment. Another activity is a poster challenge, where participants are encouraged to relate their responsible travel histories.
Responsible Travel Week consists of five days of developing sustainable travel ideas. It started on Monday, February 11, 2013, and has been challenging everyone to be attentive. It is following a simple theme and has a special focus on each day of the week i.e. on Tuesday it focused upon generosity, and creativity, on Wednesday and Thursday it focused on being empathetic, and today, Friday, "curiosity" is the focus.
If someone wants to get involved before, during or after the event, further information can be found at the website of Planeta. The only requirement is "curiosity" and a willingness to participate and promote means and ideas of responsible traveling through online social media – Facebook, Flickr, Google+, TripAdvisor, Twitter (hashtag: #rtweek2013 ) and other such kind of platforms.
