Last Thursday, RESET was invited to the SAMS Europe Award 2014, an event celebrating excellence in Software Asset Management Strategies organised by Berlin-based company we.CONECT, who donated 2,000 € to RESET and our partner project Linux4Africa on behalf of the three award winners.
We were given the opportunity to present RESET and Linux4Africa to the audience and demonstrate how Linux4Africa's model of fitting out old hardware with the Linux software and installing the system in schools in Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa and Mozambique is helping to bridge the digital divide, before the nominees took the stage to each discuss their respective strategies.
The money donated will be put towards the Illeret Nomad Education System (INES), a project run by Benedictine priest Father Florian that looks to bring educational pathways to children of nomadic tribes along the Kenyan and Ethiopian border. It can be difficult for these children to receive a proper education; their remote location means that they must travel great distances to reach the nearest school while curriculum in Kenya is traditionally taught in English and Swahili, making it harder for these children, whose language is called Daasanach, to get involved. INES allows these children to learn in their own language and within their own cultural setting by bringing a teacher and learning materials to them.

Specifically, the money will be used to purchase a ''Toughbook'' a robust, strong laptop hooked up to a high speed server that teachers can use to develop their teaching materials and take with them to the lessons.
Congratulations to the three SAMS Award winners: Voith; Rhenus Assets & Services GmbH & Co. KG; and Yara, and a heartfelt thank you to we.CONECT for their donation!
