News and messages on environmental degradation often aim to or end up making us feel guilty about our consumption patterns.

The Alternative and 220 – Second to None strongly believe thoughtful consumption can, in fact, be the solution towards sustainable living (and thus, the Green Bazaars that we’re doing all this month).

This World Environment month, tell us that one green goodie in your home that has made a significant difference to your life. It could be something you recycled, upcycled, made out of natural ingredients, procured from an ethical/eco friendly brand, handmade by an artisan or an underprivileged community or has a sustainable utility or purpose to it.

Send us a picture along with a description of the product as :

– Where did I get it?

– How does it help the environment by one notch?

– Why do I love it?

Post this picture on our Facebook wall, tweet it to us at @_thealternative with the hashtag #paintyourgreen or email it to us at contact@thealternative.in

The most popular entry (as always judged by the no. of likes on Facebook) will win a gift hamper of eco friendly goodies for your home, specially handpicked by The Alternative team.

Want to show of your sustainable spoils? Now is the best time!

About our contest partner

Second to None was started in Bangalore with a core principle of consuming less and reusing more, and making healthy choices for ourselves and for the planet. Started as an online group on Facebook, co-founded by Anu Gummaraju, Reena Chengappa, and Shilpa Kamath, 220 has become a place where you can pick the collective brain of the community for recycling at home, DIY projects with waste, and such. Visit their group on Facebook or write to them at secondnone@groups.facebook.com

This contest is a part of ‘Paint Your Green‘ campaign for World Environment Day to “Bring Sustainability Home.”

This World Environment Day, The Alternative presents many ways for you to find your green in a 100 hues of life. The ‘Paint Your Green’ campaign is a citywide campaign to bring focus on what people can do as a part of their everyday lives, to further environmental sustainability. Choose from a series of workshops, information sessions, shopping bazaars and community sessions to understand how you can make each day count, this month!

Stay with us online all this month to discover over a 100 ways to go green in your daily life – smart devices that help reduce consumption and better manage natural resources, more responsible practices like waste and water management that lead to savings and more in the long run, and a whole range of wonderful products and services, from healthier food to parabens free soap and lead-free toys that cannot but appeal to the aesthetic as much as they do to the utilitarian parts of our consciousness.
