How often do we end up breaking environmental rules one by one? Even though we might dislike going against nature or ruining it further with our unsustainable behavior, somehow, somewhere, we inevitably end up taking that path.
The practical implementations of our positive environmental behaviors often take a backseat during an emergency situation or when pressed for time, be it shopping without a recyclable plastic bag, drinking coffee from a disposable cup, excess clothing shopping or even washing clothes at a temperature over the prescribed level.
What if there was a way to get rewarded for your sustainable behavior? Finally there is a mobile app to reward you for your sustainable behavior and push you towards environmental protection.
Ecotastic, a mobile application, motivates sustainable behavior in everyday life by making sustainable and positive actions visible and creating appreciation for them in society. Be it carpooling or urban gardening, using cloth bags to carry groceries when shopping or travelling by train, the application awards points for the daily sustainable actions completed by individuals, with each action followed by automatic feedback on the number of points earned.
Each sustainable action needs to proven through photographs, which need to be uploaded via the smartphone app. The images then need to be validated by other users; for each validated action, the user receives 10 points and can also earn more points by reviewing the photo of other users, receiving one point for each photo they review. The more points a person has, higher the user's ranking. These accumulated points can be exchanged with the partner companies for goods or service vouchers, ranging from a hot drink at Kaffeemitte, environmentally- friendly bags and many more items.
With their app, Fabian Lindenberg, Anna Yukiko Bickenbach and Ralf Gehret want to make people aware and encourage them to act in an environmentally-friendly way every single day.
Any more queries about the app? Feel free to check out the frequently asked questions here or an extensive how-to guide here. Otherwise, you can download the app for Android and start accumulating points.
