“We never know the worth of water until the well is dry” – Thomas Fuller

Water is sold at thrifty prices and seems abundant as long it flows incessantly out of our taps. But the truth is that fresh water constitutes only 2.5% of all water on earth, and sources are fast disappearing.

India today is steadily running towards becoming bone dry. We rely way too much on our fast depleting groundwater and do little about the waste water that leaves our homes and neighbourhoods. Our rivers are all highly polluted without exception and our lakes and tanks, the sponges of our cities, are mercilessly being hacked to give way to development. The dichotomy between the sacred place of water in our myths and religion and the mistreatment it faces in the throes of an expanding economy is hard to escape.

What does water mean to you? What is your water story? Through Catch Every Drop, we are looking to bring water back into our conversations, over and above shortage. We ask you to tell us what water has meant to you – your stories, experiences, moments and memories around water.

Creating a concept through your lens, define what or how you see as the worth of water today in your home, neighbourhood, community or city. Judged by a panel of eminent photographers, winners get a chance to showcase their work in a photo exhibition themed ‘The Worth of Water’ at The Alternative’s Connect The Dots on World Water Day, 23rd March 2013 and be a part of the photo camp to the Koovagam festival (Tamil Nadu), organized by Korkai.

Send in your entries (you can submit up to 5 photographs) to catcheverydrop@gmail.com along with a description of what do you think is the worth of water.
