RESET – Smart Approaches to Sustainabiltiy
RESET appeals to individuals, companies, and organisations that are committed to environmental protection and global justice,employing and focusing on TIMES principles (Telecommunications, IT, Media, E-Commerce, Service Provider) to deliver its message and promote action.
RESET was brought to life as a not-for-profit organization in 2007 by German entrepreneurs Uta Mühleis and Bodo Kräter.
Uta is a founder and Managing Director of RESET and, as a social entrepreneur, focuses on the goal-oriented development of RESET’s successful, established information platform to RESET Projects. Uta has worked within digital media since the mid-1990s and has studied Environmental and Development Policy.
Having access to top TIMES professionals (as well as leaders and experts within these fields) and successfully establishing www.reset.org as a recognised information platform allows for the development of new solutions based on innovative technologies for a sustainable world.
How do we achieve sustainable development?
The problems our world faces are well-known. According to a World Public Opinion study, climate change is already widely perceived as a threat to the way of life for the majority of the global population. CO2 emissions continue to climb, mountains of rubbish continue to grow and forests continue to shrink yet there is still a large gap between problem awareness and change - that is, between knowledge and action.
We aim to close this gap and make our society sustainable through smart, new approaches. Working towards a sustainable future is something we are all asked to play a role in. Regardless of whether we do it as individuals or as part of an organisation, we can all make a contribution. However, not everyone has the necessary knowhow, money or time. This is where RESET comes in:
RESET aims to use innovative technologies to develop new solutions that turn knowledge about sustainable development into effective action, thus making a sustainable future possible.
From knowledge to action with www.reset.org
The first step towards turning knowledge into action is the information and action platform www.reset.org. Since 2007, the web platform has allowed people to engage in building a sustainable future on a number of levels, including:
- learning about news in the sustainability field via our daily newsblog;
- getting in-depth information about climate change and global justice via our dedicated topics pages;
- discovering practical tips designed to make everyday life more sustainable;
- connecting with likeminded people who are similarly interested in sustainable development; and
- donating to a range of carefully selected aid and development projects across the world.
Via our online platform, complex issues are broken down and made accessible. With an emphasis on seeking out ways that technology can be used to address some of the world's most pressing problems, RESET provides insight into the most innovative ways to incorporate sustainability into our lives, both on the individual and the collective level. Information is continually updated and accompanied by recommendations for everyday action.
RESET also works together with national and international non-profit organisations and NGOs to offer a carefully-curated selection of donation projects. To ensure an excellent ROD (Return On Donation), each featured project is cherry-picked after in-depth research and matched against selection criteria. RESET does not accept any intermediary fees meaning 100 percent of donations proceed directly to the intended partner recipient!
A Global Platform: RESET International & Partnerships Abroad
Sustainable development is a global challenge requiring a collective, collaborative approach. To help facilitate information dissemination, RESET launched an English-language knowledge and action platform in 2010 to accompany its established German-language offering. Initially tailored towards India, the site now encompasses a global outlook, reporting on ground-breaking developments within the sustainable sphere worldwide.
RESET also works to establish long-term partnerships between stakeholders in its European base and abroad, helping to connect the dots between topics with global relevance and their localised applicability.
At the same time, RESET provides the technical platform (upon request) for interested parties across the globe, if necessary, free of charge.
RESET Projects: creating social value
RESET is a social business. Using entrepreneurial means, RESET solves social challenges in ways which add value to society. Earnings are 100 percent reinvested into the organisation and investors do not receive dividends, allowing their investment to be put to best use towards building a sustainable world.
In this manner, RESET bundles together the entrepreneurial competencies of its founders. With a solid foundation built on decades of acquired industry knowledge and a robust network in the field of TIMES solutions (Telecomunications, IT, Media, E-Business, Service Provider), RESET is able to establish technology-based social innovations.
For example, the concept of RESET Projects is an outline for a satellite-supported solution which identifies dumping of contaminants in bodies of water, illegal slashing and burning of forests and facilities exceeding CO2 emissions. RESET Projects are self-financing and, once established, will be transferred to public institutions for use.
