2015 has been an up-and-down year for climate news. Scientists have cautiously labelled it the hottest year on record (due partly to global warming and partly to El Niño) while, on a more positive note, the COP21 climate talks in Paris saw 195 countries adopt an agreement to work towards limiting global temperature rises to no more than 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels.

Figuring out ways to take to minimise our own impact on the climate can be tricky. But there are small, easy steps we can take to reduce our individual impact on the planet, which can help ease the stress on earth’s resources. Of course, with a new year just around the corner, there’s no time like the present to start thinking about new habits and tips to adopt to help create a greener lifestyle. If you’re on the hunt for changes you can make with minimal fuss and time, take a look at these simple tips that help reduce plastic; save on individual energy consumption; cut down on emissions when using transport; and more.

Talk of combatting rising temperatures, greenhouse gases and sea ice melting can make the topic of climate change seem too big for us to do anything about – sometimes it feels easier to just bury our hands in the proverbial sand. But making small individual adjustments to our lifestyles can help us, as a group, make a big difference collectively.

We wish everyone a safe, prosperous and green start to the new year!
