There are people who crib about how everything around them  is wrong – from bad climate change to bumpy roads. Then, there are others who actually try to usher in change, no matter how small it is.

There are people who crib about how everything around them  is wrong – from bad climate change to bumpy roads. Then, there are others who actually try to usher in change, no matter how small it is.

The Mash Project is one such team. Currently an Indiegogo project, they are an organization committed to building a global society on the premise of sustainability. They hope to establish a society where sustainable living is not limited to protecting our natural environment but also includes overall human development and  social well being.

Their vision is to build a community of technologically enabled social activists. They aim to engage, equip and empower people to create a sustainable habitat. “We will achieve this by harnessing the power of 21st century tech innovations such as Mobile Applications, information dissemination through Social Media, interactive community-building events like Hackathons and an ever increasing range of other possibilities that technology has to offer,” says Mehna Jain, HR Head, Mash Project.

MASH was founded by Delhi based social entrepreneur Aashish Beergi who has been a British Council Global Change maker himself and Electronics and Communication engineer Kartik Jain, author of an IEEE research paper. The project boasts of a youthful team of diverse and dynamic individuals that are working to create a favourable social attitude towards sustainability. “Many people usually dismiss it as a distant and monotonous concept thus for our first initiative we will engage our audience through a highly personal mode of communication-Mobile Apps,” Jain says.

At the moment they are developing their first in-house mobile application INFO MDG that will connect the user with the progress made on the 8 Millennium Development Goals set by the United Nations to improve the existing condition of society by 2015.

Other current projects include their Facebook page that offers new tech driven sustainable living solutions every day, their Global Sustainability Calendar for 2014 that highlights UN marked international days for a sustainable planet and plans are underway for social events. Their primary aim is to expand and include more young change makers to build an ecosystem that facilitates the use of modern technology for the benefit of society. They plan to launch more apps and focus on sharing stories from across the globe that will highlight the significance of socially impactful technology.

“We will do all we can to motivate the future of the world to save their future generations as well,” says the young team.

The Alternative is an online media publication focused on sustainable living and social impact.
