At the main campus of Webster University in St. Louis, the United States, students, faculty and staff are enjoying a free power charge for their mobile phones and tablets without paying a penny! A new clean energy charging station installed with public mobile device chargers offers more than that.

Volta Group, a sustainable technology provider, installed the ENGO station which uses solar power and kinetic energy from pavegen kinetic energy tiles that create electricity just by walking. The station can recharge up to 14 mobile devices at a time in front of Webster’s East Academic Building, 545 Garden Ave.and also offers free Wi-Fi and an emergency phone to Webster University’s Public Safety department.

The Chief Executive officer of the Volta Group said,

“The EnGo Charging Station provides free recharging and also serves as an educational tool with the main goal to motivate people to become more aware how their actions affect the planet, while also increasing their awareness about importance of using renewable energy sources. We cannot hope to create a sustainable culture with any but sustainable-oriented people.”

Here is a promotional video from the group.

I hope this device will be a blast and further expand to other countries or universities. I would suggest that the group consider the next testing ground and bring it to Hong Kong and install the recharging station on the Nathan Road pathway or zebra crossings in the Mong KoK district where a million footsteps could possibly recorded in a day!
