As the saying goes, there is always someone watching out for the good work that you do. This time there is someone famous out there awarding sustainable designers, namely two of Germany’s biggest media sites: Spiegel Online and KulturSpiegel, who are behind the Orange Social Design Award.

The motto for the awards is “We’re designing our city,” where the objective is find out the best individual or team that has the answer to how we can shape public spaces and improve quality of life in cities in which we live. The award drew more than 200 applications mostly from Germany but additionally from China, India and the U.S.A. out of which, 10 submissions have been shortlisted to choose the final winner.

The final vote rests with all of us for the audience award category (the other category is jury award, which will be chosen by the preselected jury panel). The entry which gets the most votes by October 19 will walk away with 2,500 EUR and will also feature in the latest issue of KulturSpiegel and on Spiegel Online.

Of the finalists, my personal favourite is Pollinate Energy, which has been providing sustainable solutions to social problems (namely offering affordable clean energy) to the squatters living in temporary shelters homes in Bangalore, India.

You need to make your vote count here (do check out the Pdf links below the pictures for the detailed info about each submission)!
