It’s time to be bold and get active in international development. First stop? If you live in Berlin a good place to start could be tonight’s Bold Berlin event. They’re talking about water security and want innovative minds to help drive progress.

Bold Berlin is part of the bigger Bold initiative. Founded by Ohad Sternberg, Bold aims to foster international development. This means bringing together organisations, companies universities, governments and, most importantly, you, to initiate good development practices, share knowledge and gain access to the tools needed to make a difference.

Tonight’s Bold Berlin event, held at 19.30 in GlogauAir, is the first of a monthly series. Each event will focus on one area of international development. Water takes the spotlight this evening and the organisers have brought in three speakers intended to inspire, motivate, and encourage participation.

Not convinced? They’ve also offered a few facts on how water affects every facet of our lives, and why it’s important to get involved:

  • Roughly 75% of all industrial water withdrawals are used for energy production.
  • 50% of Africans don’t have access to clean water.
  • 3,4 Million people die each year from water-related diseases.
  • More people have a mobile phone than a toilet.
  • Lack of access to clean water and sanitation kills children at a rate equivalent to a jumbo jet crashing every four hours.
