Last week, the .eco domain name was handed over to more than 50 environmental groups, consisting of biggies like WWF, IUCN, Lead and 350.org.

Big Room, based in Vancouver assembled a coalition of more than 50 environmental groups from around the world, to add manpower to their plea for the domain .eco by winning over from two other competitors with their pitch, which offered the environmental community to have greater role in making the .eco domain community grow and become a badge of sustainability rather than just another domain name in the vast world wide web.

Commercial entities without green values as their primary goal will no longer ba able to green wash their actions by using the .eco domain .eco.

Interested in registering an .eco Domain? You will need to signup at doteco.org and fill out a form which is vetted. This is just one of the initial steps to ensure that domain squatters don’t engulf the .eco domain with their commercial activities.
